‘Back to the Future’ writer, a Cardinals fan, discusses prediction of Cubs winning 2015 World Series

If the Chicago Cubs end their 107-year championship drought this season, they might owe some of the credit to a fan of their biggest rival.

That’s because the 1989 movie “Back to the Future Part II” predicted the Cubs would win the 2015 World Series, and the man who wrote the screenplay and imagined this unlikely scenario is Bob Gale, a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan. In a sport where players and fans believe in curses, jinxes and superstitions, maybe it’s not so crazy to think a movie has somehow spurred the Cubs to the brink of history.

A big play by sophomore Patrick Johnson on the game’s opening drive, helped spark a six-takeaway night by The College of Wooster football’s defense. For his efforts on Saturday night, Johnson was selected as the North Coast Athletic Conference’s Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.

Johnson forced a fumble on a second-and-8 play minutes into the game. The fumble, also recovered by the Scots’ defensive back, set up the offense at the Allegheny College 30-yard line.

Johnson helped key a second Scot touchdown in the fourth quarter. With around four minutes remaining, he intercepted a pass at the Allegheny 36-yard line. Two plays later, first-year Russell Boston would rumble in from 35 yards out for the touchdown, that put the College up 28-6.
